A photo from long ago shows John Louis Glenn and Mary Caroline ( CALLIE ) Glenn. She had been one of Louis Glenn's school students. As reported before, Louis taught 50 school terms in a long ago era in Watauga, Avery and Mitchel counties. His father, Simeon Glenn, served in the Confederate army during the Civil war. Simeon was killed when his regiment was engaged in battle with William SHERMAN'S Union troops in North Carolina. It was reported this battle took place a few days after the war was officially over. The news of the armistice had not reached these troops. Many were buried in a mass grave at Bentonville, N.C. Callie Glenn died in 1943 and Louis Glenn died in 1945. |
