Louis Glenn writes another letter to Callie Greer in May, 1884. Louis writes " DEAREST CALLIE, I feel sad this morning to think that I will not see you for some little time. CALLIE, I have a dear mother somewhere I want to see, and think I will go to find her this spring, but I leave a dearer one behind, but I hope you will not forget me. Let come what may I shall never forsake you. I want you to remember me as your dearest beloved one. CALLIE, believe me, I can never willingly give you up. I suppose your mom says she has nothing against me but she says her girl is not old enough for me, but there is one consolation, you will get older. You know our vow. I remain yours affectionately forever. LOUIS P.S. Will be back in 3 or 4 weeks." Then he adds "I THINK OF YOU CONSTANTLY". Louis Glenn did go further over into southwestern North Carolina, and after searching some weeks, he finally found his mother. He had not seen or heard from her since 1867, when she abandoned him. Louis Glenn and Mary Caroline Greer were married June 6,1886. |
