A long ago photo shows Grandpa Glenn on a riding horse.( 1861-1945). John Louis Glenn started teaching school about 1880 and taught until about 1905. He taught in Watauga, Avery and Mitchell counties, and taught a total of 50 terms. His terms were usually about 3 months each and usually would teach 2 terms per year. His father, Simeon GLENN, was killed in the Civil War in 1865. His regiment engaged in battle with General William Sherman's troops resulting in the deaths of a large number of troops on both sides.
