This photo shows the remnants of the original William and Laura FARTHING house. William Farthing constructed this dwelling in 1901, the year he acquired 170 acres mostly all wooded land, located in Laurel Creek Township, Watauga County, N.C. He moved the family into this new dwelling fall of 1901. Aunt Elsie was only a few months old when the family moved to this new house. Thomas was born here in 1903 and George, youngest, 1906. Most of the Grandchildren would remember this dwelling when it was in excellent condition. Grandma Farthing died in 1943 and Grandpa Farthing sold the farm in 1946. The new owners built a new house, and this original house was no longer maintained. |
