Wheeler (1917-1967) was educated at Appalachian College ( at nearby Boone, N.C.) and graduated in 1939. He taught at our local high school, (COVE CREEK HIGH SCHOOL) for several years. Ben (1930-1975) graduated 1953 from N.C. State University at Raleigh, N.C. where he earned a degree in ENGINEERING.
Two other brothers, Raymond and Louis and three sisters, Frances, Laura and Dixie Rae are not in the photo.BELOW; Dixie and Benjamin Farthing ( my parents ) in the 1940s. Photo was taken at the Farthing farm.
They both graduated, in the pre 1910 period, from APPALACHIAN TRAINING SCHOOL ( NOW UNIVERSITY) in Boone, N.C. They each obtained TEACHERS CERTIFICATES and taught in the elementary school systems in Watauga and Avery Counties N.C. in a long ago era.
